A layout out of my comfort zone...

Today I'm sharing with you a layout that I made yesterday. It's pretty different than what I'd normally do, which is why I wanted to show you. I feel like it's good to push yourself to change things up, use colors you wouldn't normally use, try using a sketch, do something random. This photo is of my husband sticking his face through one of those wooden signs with a hole cut out. We were in San Francisco checking out an old ship and I asked him to stick his face in so that I could take a picture and he did because he's a good sport. I have to say, he probably didn't realize this was going to be plastered all over social media but will he care? Doubt it. He's like that.

The paper that I used was this super cute MAMBI collection that I used perhaps one sheet of and set the whole stack aside. Shameful! I pulled that stack out and made a deal with it to use more paper because really, I need to use these crafty items up. You know. To make room for more. *ahem* Anyway...I wanted to use at least two sheets so that's where that super colorful chevron paper comes into play. That's not paper that I would normally use but it was fun with the text at the bottom so I tore it out and committed.

I felt like the paper was a big ~much~ to take in large doses so I cut out some circles with it, backed those up on plain card stock and randomly placed them around the layout.

Next I decorated each circle with random elements from my stash. Simple Stories stickers, DCWV chipboard, Heidi Swapp cards and flair from who knows where.

Then outside the circles I added more little details...Simple Stories stickers mainly.

Also some Crate Paper chipboard elements...frames...vellum. It all worked out, I feel like.

Now it's your turn. What do YOU do to shake up your layouts when they get stale? Do you change up your color schemes? Do challenges? Leave me a comment!

Until next time~~~

Utilizing my stash, whittling it down...making pretty things!

A craft stash. We all have them. Some are modest. Some are jaw dropping. Some, let's face it, make us want to call the number to the show Hoarders and nominate a buddy or two. Although I have an entire craft room filled to the brim with embellies and trims and papers....(OH THE PAPERS!!!) I still find something else I want at the store. Or online. catch my drift. A couple justifications, if I may. One, I've been on a lot of design teams over the past couple years and I received a LOT of free product because of it. Two, I get a LOT of gifts from my crafty buddies and You Tube subscribers and friends. So I didn't actually pay for all of this stuff but I still have it. I have been working really hard to try to thin out the herd a bit, so to speak.

In my efforts to use my stash, I really dug in to it and found this Echo Park Every Day Eclectic collection. I just had to have it and yes, I bought multiples of every sheet and my collection IS getting thin, which is great. But honestly, I should have used this up by now. I paired the balloon paper with some cloud paper that was a recent purchase, then broke it up with a B side of some of that same EDE collection.

I threw a filler card into the mix from who knows where. I have thousands of these cards at this point, no idea who gave me what or who made it. I can't retain that information. However, the hot pink was the same as the pink in the hot air balloons so it made the cut. I threw in some little tidbits from Crate Paper's Open Book collection, and Simple Stories "I am" as well.  The enamel dots are from My Style Stamps. Here's the link to MSS if you'd like to scoop up some of those dots for your stash.

Oh the clouds! For a while there I was pretty obsessed with wood veneer everything, but especially clouds. And patterned clouds? STOP! To die for! These were purchased at a shop called Trees to Treasure but I'm not sure that she's still in business, I just can't say. She had fabulous wood veneers though! This wood grain cloud was colored with some aqua ink (by me) to try to match the blues in the hot air balloons. You can ~barely~ see it but on that yellowish orange strip in the middle I used a Tim Holtz debossing folder with the word "May" on it. That flair is fresh from A Flair For Buttons on etsy. More enamel dots from My Style Stamps and some Simple Stories Snap stickers. Whew!

That number 3 down there in the bottom corner is from Crate Paper's Confetti chipboard, and the 'happy' was cut by little ol' me using Heidi Swapp's word die. And more My Style Stamps enamel dots. Because I love them.

Here's a close up of another of those beloved wood veneer clouds that I inked up, along with more enamel dots and some Crate Paper chipboard pieces.

Here's a gratuitous close up of products I already mentioned but I wanted you to see my hubby close up. lol I love that man!

How do you mix and match your stash? How do you make sure that you are getting a good use out of the products that you purchase, the old and new? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Until my next post....have a great day. Now go make something pretty!

Welcome to my blog!

Well hello there and welcome to my blog! This is my very first post and I have to say, I was SO reluctant to begin blogging again. I had deleted my last blog years ago, I suppose I was looking for a bit more instant gratification with it but it felt more like I was simply writing in a diary. Not much feedback, you know? However, after seeking some advice in a Facebook group that I belong to, I decided that I really needed a blog if I wanted to land some cushy Design Team positions for some of the bigger companies. So a blogging I will go.

In this blog I'll be trying to cover quite a few different topics, mostly craft related. I personally enjoy mixed media, scrapbooking (both 12 x 12 and pocketed), card making and altering items, to name a few. I also enjoy cooking and gardening, traveling and shopping. I hope to touch on all of these things in upcoming posts.

Today, however, I wanted to take a moment to brag because last week I was featured on the Paper Issues Blog. I was BEYOND thrilled to have one of my layouts shown, it gives me such a thrill when I catch their eye! I took a photo of the blog that day with my layout there in the middle. I was really pleased with how that layout turned out. It was a few photos of my daughter and her friend right before prom. Thank you, Paper Issues!!!

Here's a link to the original post, should you want to check it out, along with the other people who were featured. And, by the way, if you don't visit their blog regularly, you really should. I can honestly say it is the ONLY blog that I actually check out daily. Or at all, for that matter.

And here's my little badge of honor....  =)

Well, I think that's it for today but I have a LOT of things that I can share with you. I need to spend some time now trying to figure out how to change the 'look' of my blog, what I can add, what sort of gadgets are available and that sort of thing. I welcome your comments and participation! In the future I'll be trying to think of games or activities to get people active on my blog, which would make it fun for everyone. If you have any suggestions, feel free.

Until then...have a great day and I hope to hear from you soon. Feel free to follow me!
